Jimmy Buffett

So, many of you know that I am TERRIBLE at delivering a punch line. This was a perfect delivery, but I can take NO credit for it!

I gave Sam a "Peacock" sticker last night. He was walking around with his sticker on his hand. When it was time for dinner, he wanted to put his peacock sticker on his cheek and keep it there for "safe keeping". So, basically, I had to stare at a peacock on my kid's face throughout the entire dinner.

We like to joke around with potential nicknames for each other. For example, Rusty (and I) are called "Aardvark" Rachel is "Po-poke", and Sam is "Stinky". We use these nicknames throughout any given day.

Right near the end of dinner, Rusty called me "Peacock". He probably got this from seeing a peacock all night on Sam's cheek. So, in turn, I called him a "Parrot Head". Don't ask. It was the first thing that came to mind. (Luckily, it was "G" rated).

Of course, Rusty went straight to Jimmy Buffett, and said, "That's right! Margaritaville, born and bred".

Rachel is awesome!!!

Rachel's response to that comment, you ask?

"Boy that must have been a big piece of bread!"

Week 31

Rebekah's Update for Week 31:

Yup. I'm still here.

Still not sleeping, but I'd imagine that will be the story of my life for the next 6 months, at least!

Rachel looked at me the other day, and said, "Mama! Look at your belly". Apparently, she just realized that my belly is HUGE!! I went to lay down last night, and it seems that as soon as I do, Emily starts to adjust accordingly. So, I called Rachel into the room, and she got to feel Emily kicking around. Rachel was amazed! Then, of course, Sam climbed onto the bed, and said, "I wanna..feel....Enimy." Ah! To be two!!!

We officially have the countdown on the refrigerator. I think that Rusty enjoys the countdown just as much as Rachel, but he'd never admit it!!

Only 8 weeks to go!!!

Woo Hoo!!

This is the update from the website: Week 31
Your Baby's Development
By now your baby is urinating approximately several cups of urine a day into the amniotic fluid. He or she is also swallowing amniotic fluid, which is completely replaced several times a day. Excess fluid in the amniotic sac (known as polyhydramnios) may mean that the baby isn't swallowing normally or that there is a gastrointestinal obstruction. Inadequate fluid in the amniotic sac (oligohydramnios) may mean that the baby isn't urinating properly and could indicate a problem with the kidneys or urinary tract. Your health care provider will measure your levels of amniotic fluid as part of your routine ultrasound.

Your Body
Have you decided whether to breastfeed or formula feed your baby? Although the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends breast milk as the best form of infant nutrition, the decision about how to feed your child is a personal one. Talk to your health care provider or a lactation consultant if you need more information before making your choice.
The milk glands in your breasts may have started to make colostrum by now. Colostrum is the pre-milk that provides your baby with calories and nutrients for the first few days before your milk comes in if you plan to breastfeed. For some women, it is thin and watery. For others, it is thick and yellowish. If you notice your breasts leaking colostrum, you can buy disposable or washable breast pads to protect your clothing.

4D Ultrasound

I'm thinking of doing this. Has anyone out there ever heard of this?? I think, if it works like it appears to, that it would be pretty neat. Not to mention, guests can come...

Let me know what you think...

A Trip to Remember

When we went to Smith Mountain Lake this summer, Cody had a pretty good trip. Literally. Starting around 15 seconds, you'll see what I mean!! It's a super long video, but it's good that the best part happened right in the beginning!!
Love you, kiddo!

Check it out!!

Finally - A Break

Rusty and I had the opportunity to go on a vacation that my wonderful Aunt Corny & Uncle Sam gave us. Mom said that she would keep the kids for us too. Labor Day weekend, we took off!

Our reservations were at a quaint little beach cottage in Deerfield Beach, South Florida. I've never been further south than Stuart, so this was super exciting. I've lived in Florida my entire life. I've just never had reason to go down there. We planned to stay gone for 5 days. This was going to be wonderful, and WONDERFUL it was - even though we both had colds!!!

I've never been to a casino before. When it occurred to me that there was a "Non smoking" casino not too far away from our room, that was our first destination. On our first night, we hit The Isle Casino, Pompano Beach. This place was extremely nice. It even had bathroom attendants. The weird part though? There was a movie advertisement in the mirrors of the bathroom.

We went into The Isle with absolutely ZERO intentions of winning anything. We just wanted to go for the experience. We both had $40 to use however we wanted, and then I had $5 that was just dying to be spent. Neither of us knew what we were doing. Rusty sat down at the "Betti the Yetti" slot machine and started to randomly hit buttons. When I looked over at him, he had the "Rusty face" and was just about to get up and walk away. He thought that the machine was malfunctioning. Next think I know, a $1 bet has turned in to a $36.90 win!! Woo Hoo!!!

Cash out!

We got the bug for gambling again before the trip was over, and we went to The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino...just to say that we went. Ultimately, after all of our gambling, we ended up losing $20, but to me, that was worth it! We had such a good time...

The next morning, we headed over to Lion Country Safari. Basically, they give you a CD to listen to while you drive through their park seeing all kinds of exotic animals that you may not ever see otherwise. There were lions, rhinoceros, and many other animals that I couldn't tell you what they were without the help of the CD. Whatever the case, we had a great time! We both really wished that the kids could be there to see all of the really cool animals, but we were secretly happy that they were with Grammy!

We spent an entire day lounging around the room. It was really nice to sit on the lounge chair with the beach breeze blowing on our faces. I ultimatley fell asleep while Rusty read a book. It may have been the best moment of our entire vacation!

Mom insisted that we go to a restaurant that she visited when she was there. The Mai Kai Restaurant is a Polynesian Restaurant that is quite possibly the coolest restaurant that I have ever been to. There is really no way of describing it. All I can say to you is that if you are EVER in Ft. Lauderdale, you must go, but please save some $$$ up for your visit. We spent WAY too much money there, but it was so much fun. They have belly dancers and "warriors" that come out and put on a show while you eat. I've attached a video of their fire dance!

After everything that we had done already, we decided to pack it up for the day and go to The Florida Keys. Of course, it took FOREVER to get there, so we went to the 1st key: Key Largo. We wanted to go out on a glass bottom boat to see the coral reef, so we made reservations on the boat at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. We got there about an hour or so before our boat left. I didn't realize that we would go out as far as we did into the ocean, but we went out 6 miles off the coast. I am not usually known for having a weak stomach. I have never...not once...gotten motion sickness, but, of course, this time, I did. I didn't actually get sick, but I sure felt like I could. I blame Emily, that all I can say. The water was gorgeous! I've never seen water that blue unless it was in a pool, and the reef was amazing.

I am going to declare it. This was the very best vacation that I've ever had with my husband!

Cruisin' Around Tally

Many of you know that Rusty and I had planned on going on an elaborate cruise this year. It would be the first vacation that we've had in over 8 years that would it be "just us" even if half of the family were going to be there. We had planned on ditching them, at some point! We were SO looking forward to it. We both were working on Weight Watchers, getting into shape, and preparing to have a margarita (or two)!

So, Carnival Cruise Lines has a rule that you are not allowed to go on the cruise if you are over 26 weeks pregnant or so. Guess what?! I'm 31 weeks pregnant. Naturally, we couldn't go even with much persuasion from the family. They suggested that I walk around with a bag of cookies and let people think that I am just fat! Nice, guys! Thanks for the advice. I knew that would never work, so we backed out of our cruise...probably the worst day of 2008. But then, they left for the cruise...without us. *Sigh* That may have been even worse.

They are there, right now, having a FREAKIN' BLAST, without us. I don't want anyone to take this wrong, but it's only human nature to hope for a hurricane and have them postpone the trip. What can I say? I don't wish them harm, by any stretch, but secretly, I wanted to go THAT BAD! I feel that I can speak for Patti here too. She was unable to go as well, so both of us have been sitting here, lonely, not on a cruise, but even worse...at work!

I've tried to be optimistic this week and look for the bright side of this situation. There are five "bright side" possibilities for me. I can't speak for Patti, but these still can't compare to a cruise. I have taken to "Cruisin' Around Tally" while searching for "bright sides".

Bright Sides (even if it is a stretch)
Only two of these are really valid, by the way...

  1. We saved money (at least $1500.00). (Not valid)
  2. We will spend our "saved" money on hospital bills from Emily being born. (Not valid)
  3. We got a lot of work done because we weren't playing online all day. (Not valid)
  4. We got to see Fall come to Tallahassee (Temps have dropped at least 20 degrees) (Valid)
  5. Rusty has a kidney stone. It would have sucked for him to have during the cruise. (Valid)
One day, I'd imagine, we'll get our chance. I just hope it's sooner than later. I know that everyone has had a really good time while they were on the cruise, and I'm glad...a little.

Whilrpool

Every year, we make whirlpools when we go swimming @ Joey's. One year, we had about 10 people participating which made for an AWESOME whilrpool. This year, we only had three people (and me to video), but it still works. Watch how the kids float away. Then watch how everyone just stops, and floats too. It's SO much fun!!

Swimming @ Joey's, 2008

We love to invade Joey's pool during the summer. Here are some good shots from Summer, 2008. Hope you enjoy!

It's "Potty" Time

So, my little guy has officially been wearing his "Dinosaw Unnerware" for about 3 weeks now! One of our biggest worries was that we would have two kids in diapers at the same time. We started this whole "potty training" escapade MONTHS ago. It's SO hard to be consistent when the daycare that claims to be working with you...is not! We've moved daycare, and they are wonderful.

Sam has been wearing his "Race Car Puud-ups" for quite some time, but we feel that he was used to the idea of just "going" in them. Daycare suggested that we put him in underwear, and she'd work with him there, and so we did!

Three weeks ago, he was running around naked. My thought process was that he wouldn't go potty without a diaper...it worked! He never once messed up when he was naked, but still....he was naked. Poor kid. Sorry, buddy!

So, when we finally got him some "Dinosaw Unnerware", he was elated! He walked around in his bog boy underwear like he was something else! It was SO cute.

Sam is so OCD, it's not even funny! His "Potty Process" may very well be the funniest thing I've ever heard of.

Sam's Potty Process
by Sam Corley
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he has to go potty.
  • Have statement acknowledged (by everyone within earshot).
  • Go into bathroom.
  • Move stool into "perfect" position to turn on the light.
  • Announce (To everyone within ear shot) that he turned the light on.
  • Have statement acknowledged (by everyone within ear shot).
  • Move stool to potty.
  • Pull down shorts.
  • Pull down "Dinosaw Unnerware".
  • Climb on to potty.
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he is going potty.
  • Have statement acknowledged (by everyone within ear shot).
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he went potty.
  • Have statement acknowledge (by everyone within ear shot).
  • Grab a "Liddle Piece" of toilet paper.
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he got a "Liddle Piece".
  • Wipe.
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he's done.
  • Have statement acknowledged (by everyone within ear shot).
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he will flush the potty.
  • Have statement acknowledged (by everyone within ear shot).
  • Flush the potty.
  • Wave and say bye-bye to the pee pee.
  • Close potty.
  • Move stool to turn the light off.
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he turned the light off.
  • Have statement acknowledged (by everyone within ear shot).
  • Leave the bathroom.
  • Announce (to everyone within ear shot) that he went potty.
  • Have statement acknowledge (by everyone within ear shot).
  • Wait for praise (from everyone within ear shot).

This process happens EACH time that Sam goes potty. We are SO happy for him. He's growing up SO fast! I can't believe it. We are so thrilled to be able to experience the toddler stage. Even more exciting is that we have so much more to come!!

Week 30

Rebekah's Update for Week 30:

Wow. I am so pregnant. I have 9 weeks to go too!!! BLAH!

Everything has been okay this week. I am not sleeping...at all...I believe that I may wake up every hour or so to use the bathroom, which is seriously irritating!

I've also noticed that I am beginning to become completely immobile. Socks are getting harder to reach and getting anything off of the floor has now become someone else's duty.

**WARNING TO THE SQUEAMISH**

This is the update from the website: Week 30

Your Baby's Development
Now weighing about 3 pounds (1,400 grams) and measuring about 10.8 inches (27 cm) from crown to rump, your baby continues to gain weight and layers of fat. This fat makes the baby look less wrinkly and will help provide warmth after birth.
In preparation for respiration after birth, your baby will mimic breathing movements by repeatedly moving the diaphragm. Your baby can even get the hiccups, which you may feel as rhythmic twitches in your uterus.
Your Body
Constipation is a common complaint of pregnancy. The pregnancy hormones that allow you to maintain your pregnancy also slow the digestive process considerably. Exercising regularly and eating foods high in fiber, such as vegetables and whole grains, are great ways to keep everything regular.

Progress is Amazing!

This time last year, Rusty and I were worried about Rachel's progress in her schooling. She had had tendencies to act out in school, not pay attention, and do all sorts of things that we would consider to be inappropriate behavior before she came back to us.

I had a meeting with her ESE (Exceptional Student Education) teacher last Friday. I have made it very clear to all of her teachers that Rusty and I are doing everything that we can to get Rachel in to mainstream education. We feel that there is no need for her to be in "special" classes because her behavior is NOTHING like it used to be.

After the first 2 weeks of this school year, Rachel was moved from ESE monitoring to what I would consider to be a "check-in" basis. She only has to check in with her ESE teacher in the mornings because she is on that attendance roster. We were extremely happy with this move, but now, Miss Rachel has done what many considered to be impossible! Rusty and I knew that it would just take some time, but we never imagined that it would happen THIS FAST!!

Effective March 19, 2009, Rachel will be dismissed from the ESE program!!!!! She will no longer be "classified" as anything but a normal 3rd grader! Woo hoo!!! You go, girl!!! We are SO excited! This has been one of the BIG family goals since Rachel came back to us. Now, we just have to get her (and the other kids) through high school, and we'll have it made. I'm sure we'll have plenty of support from not only family and friends, but God has worked here in so many ways, that I am sure, 100%, that we'll be okay. And if not, everything will eventually be just as it is supposed to be.

Wow. What news!

What's a carp?

While we were at Smith Mountain Lake visiting the most wonderful family a girl could ask for, we were taken to "feed the carp" at the marina. Before this trip, I would have mistaken the word, "Carp" for the word, "Car". My hearing isn't all that it used to be (blaming extremely loud music for this one), and the fact that I don't pay attention to the different names of fish would explain why I would have thought that Uncle Sam was insane because he wanted to take my children to "Feed the Car". Anyhoo, here is a brief video of the kids feeding the CARP! We had an absolute BLAST! I think that this may be one of the stranger things that I will see in my lifetime! The lighting is horrible because of the position of the sun, but you'll get the idea.

Week 29

Rebekah's Update for Week 29: I am tired. I am very......very.....tired.... I had to work the early shift this week in FedEx-land. That means that I have to get up VERY early in the morning. I set the clock for 2:27 (I loved that TV show) every day, and roll/wobble / limp out of bed to go to work where my "crew" may or may not show up for work. I REALLY hate working this shift. It has nothing to do with getting up that early. I really don't mind it. I just despise having to depend on undependable people. I won't get going on this issue...Emily doesn't need any extra stress and neither do I. Other than being so extremely tired and sore from working, Emily and I are doing fine. The kids are getting anxious about Emily's arrival. I'm going to get a dry erase board for Rachel so that she can start her countdown. We did this for our SML vacation, and she absolutely had a blast keeping up with it! While we were getting everything into the car the day that we left, she even did a 60 second countdown. So much fun!!! My hips have completely popped out of joint, and I am limping around 85% of the time. I've called the doctor to see if it would be a hindrance to the labor / delivery process if I go get them popped back in, but I missed her call yesterday. That's now a project for next week. I could SO go for a massage right now! *Sigh*
**WARNING TO THE SQUEAMISH** -This quite possibly is too much information for you-
This is the update from the website: Week 29
Your Baby's DevelopmentYour baby continues to be active, and those first few flutters of movement have given way to hard jabs and punches that may take your breath away. If you notice a decrease in movement, do a fetal kick count: your baby should move at least 10 times in an hour. If your baby moves less, talk to your health care provider.

Your Body During pregnancy, iron is important for replenishing the red blood cell supply. You should be eating at least 30 milligrams of iron each day. Because iron deficiency is common during pregnancy, your health care provider may recommend that you receive a blood test to check your iron level. If it's low, you may be prescribed an iron supplement.

Rachel Anne (Rachili)

Wow! What a great year! We are so happy to have Rachel back! She's such a special little girl! There are so many amazing stories that I could tell about Rachel, but that's another day.

Rusty typically gets the kids going in the morning. He wakes up Sam and takes him potty, and then he goes for Rachel. He walks in to her room, turns the light on, and sings, "RAAAAACCCCCCHHIILLLLIIIIIII". One would pronounce this as (Ra.cheeeeee.leeeeeee). Somehow, this works for her. She gets right up and gets ready for school. Rachel has SO much patience. If it were me he was waking up like that, I'd have to consider killing him. We'll see if this statement remains true when she becomes a teenager.

We love Rachel so much, that we, from time to time, let her play in the dryer! As you can see, she absolutely LOVES it. No, we don't let her sleep in there anymore, but she sure does try. For those of you that don't get that I'm kidding here? You'll be okay...Maybe.

Rachel loves the opportunity to have her picture taken. She jumps at any opportunity that she can find so she can make a pose in a picture.

This morning, she wanted to make George Washington hair. Let me take a minute to explain. We like to swim, as you all know. When I was younger, I had extremely long hair. If you go under water in a certain way, you can make it so that all of your hair is flipped over in such a way when you come out of the water, that if you fold it up over your forehead, you look like George Washington. It takes a bit of an imagination, but it's hysterical when it's done properly. Please remember that this is typically something that is done successfully only while swimming, but Rachel is an overachiever. She decided to fold up her bangs and make them look like our former President. Absolutely hysterical, even though it wasn't perfect. She really enjoys being silly, and I hope that never goes away!

Rachel's heart is so pure. She wants nothing but good for everyone, and she strives to make people happy and comfortable in their own surroundings. When it comes to her growing up, I cringe. She is so strong-willed and determined. My parents wished that when I was an adult that my kids were half as difficult as I was. I think that I may have met my match when it comes to Rachel. Don't worry...I'll win, but we both may have some interesting stories to tell when it's all said and done.

Being Random

So, normally, I like to have some sort of "order" to this blog, but this is just so strange. I figured that I needed to post it before I forgot about it. I forget things ALL the time, so if I don't write them down, they go into oblivion! I don't, however, forget my OCD tendencies, so I will always remember this random blog as what it is...merely random.

It seems that my life is more random than I would like. Typically, I like to have everything in a specific place, and if it's not there, I secretly freak out. It's no secret...it's just me!

We just finished dinner. It wasn't anything spectacular, by any stretch, but my guy has some serious skills. We usually have pizza on Friday nights, but with spending so much on gas recently, we are having to cut back...I think that the rest of the US is having the same issues...except for all of those ka-zillionaires out there in Hollywood that want us to become a "socialist" nation...but, that's another soap box left for another day.

So, before I got off on a tangent, I was mentioning that we just finished dinner. We had some "Rusty" rice (some sort of secret concoction that he created) and the kids had some Ravioli. My appetite is so off kilter these days that I can't eat very much in the evenings.

One of Rachel's chores is to take the garbage out. She ran downstairs and down to the trash can, and then she ran back upstairs (SO MUCH FREAKIN' ENERGY, GOOD GRIEF). When she came back upstairs, she ran directly to Sam's room / the computer room where I was going over the previous blog, and trying to fix it. She said, "Mommy! Listen to this!" She started shaking like she had an imaginary hoola hoop around her waist. Next thing I hear is her tummy literally "SLOSHING" around. Can you say, "EWWWWWW". I made her go show Rusty. I don't ever think that I have seen him that grossed out before.

Rachel is now running through the house with her sloshing tummy and pretending to have a hoola hoop on. Anyone looking in from the outside would really wonder about our family sometimes!

SNL Spoof on Palin / Clinton

This is pretty funny!!
Gov. Sarah Palin & Sen. Hillary Clinton
a.k.a. Tina Fey & Amy Poehler
Apparently, NBC removes the video from youtube after a certain amount of time for copyright laws or whatever, so hopefully, they won't remove it from their own website!!!
Enjoy!

Cody Ray (Codissa)

Cody turned 15 this summer. I can't believe it, but yes, I guess I'm getting that old. I remember when he was 5. Really? 15? Good grief.

Cody is one cool kid. It's so fun talking with him and hanging out with him. He's so sarcastic (in a good way) that I look forward to seeing him and talking to him nearly every day. When he's here for the summer, we really don't know what to do with ourselves when he goes back to his Mom's house.

I absolutely MUST get this on video...Cody can COMPLETELY SOLVE a Rubix Cube in under a minute. Yes, I have witnessed this feat over and over and over again. He will even hand you the rubix cube to mix up, just so he can prove that he is really doing it. I never knew this, but they make all different kinds of Rubix Cubes. The original one you can see above, but now they have made one that has 4 sides!! Cody can complete this one in no time as well. Amazing, if you ask me!

Cody also mastered the fine art of a house of cards. It was SO funny. He just sat down, and went to town. I swear, that kid is way to smart for his own good. He's going to be such an awesome adult. I can't wait! But, in thinking about it, for Cody to be an adult, that means that I have to get older...hmmm. It's a toss up, but I don't mind aging. I will always know that I'll still be the youngest in MOST situations!!!

A SML Summer Like No Other

So, we've made it customary to go to Aunt Corny and Uncle Sam's house on Smith Mountain Lake every summer. We load the van up, and go. We also skip over to Kingsport, TN to visit Babby (my sis-in-law) on this trip. Babby is only 3 hours away from the Lake, so it makes for an easy ride.

So, like I said, we loaded up the van, and headed north. It seems that there is less room in the van these days (There are 6 of us...Rusty, me, Mom, Cody, Rachel, & Sam), so we only pack for three days. It makes it SO nice to pack everything. Blah! Once Emily gets here, Cody is going to have to ride on the top of the van!!!

I've not had a minute to post all that I have wanted to post in quite some time, but I wanted to get SML Summer, 2008 on here as soon as possible! We just LOVE visiting with family! It is just SO important to me to keep my family close. I've lost really close family members in the past, so I try to keep everyone as close as possible. Even if I get mad about something...I understand that you just have to get over it. Family is SO important!

There is SO much that I can say about different family members, but this is about SML, 2008. This may have been our best vacation yet!!!

Week 28

Rebekah's Update for Week 28:
I'm still here. I may sleep a total of 3 hours a night. And even then, it seems that I get stuck on my back in mid-roll-over, but hey, it could be worse! I was awake all night long when I was pregnant with Rachel. I don't know what it is with Emily, but I've only slept one night, all the way through, since I have been 3 months pregnant! AAAAAAAA!!!!!!

My cold is gone, except that it turned in to a pretty annoying sinus infection. All weekend long, my left eye felt like exploding. I could stick my head underneath the hottest water, and nothing. Normally, I can break it up a bit with this, but not this time. Rusty is still coughing all over the place, but it's getting better. Poor guy.

Emily has gone from gently "tapping" me to actually "beating" me. Every single time that she moves, "WHAP!" It's killing me. I'm sure that I've expressed this before, but I really am tired of being pregnant!

People have asked me in several different ways if we are done having kids. They've said, "So, this being your third, you have figured out how it happens, right?" or "It's not in the water, Rebekah!" It's interesting that as much as I HATE being pregnant, I LOVE my kids! I can't imagine having that much love over and over and over again. I'm not committing for me or for Rusty that we are even CONSIDERING having more kids, but who knows. We'll get through this one, and then see where it goes!

I can't wait until it says "Week 30" on the pregnancy ticker! That means that I can have an actual countdown. We'll probably put it up in the house somewhere for Rachel to enjoy. She loves a good countdown!!!

Here's a pretty good picture of me beginning my 7th month of pregnancy! I'd have to say, I'm so freakin' CUTE!!! Look at me!!! Wow!!! Whew!!! Oh, go on!! : )

**WARNING TO THE SQUEAMISH**
-This quite possibly is too much information for you-

This is the update from the website: Week 28

Your Baby's Development
Your baby now weighs about 2 pounds, 2 ounces (1,000 grams) and measures about 10 inches (25 cm) from crown to rump. At your next prenatal appointment, your health care provider may tell you whether your baby is headfirst or feet- or bottom-first (called breech position) in the womb. Babies who are in the breech position may need to be delivered by cesarean section. Your baby still has 2 months to change position, though, so don't worry if your baby is in the breech position right now. Most babies will switch positions on their own.
The folds and grooves of your baby's brain continue to develop and expand. In addition, your baby continues to add layers of fat and has continued hair growth.
Your Body
Your health care provider probably sent you for some blood tests early in your pregnancy. One thing blood tests measure is the Rh factor, a substance found in the red blood cells of most people. If you don't have it (if you’re Rh negative) but your baby does (is Rh positive), there is potential for your baby to have health problems, such as jaundice and anemia. Your doctor can prevent these problems by giving you a vaccine called Rh immune globulin at 28 weeks and again after delivery.

Week 27

Rebekah's Update for Week 27:
Week 27 was pretty uneventful other than I got a cold! Rusty and I went on a vacation (just the two of us) in South Florida, and the night before we left, we both looked at each other, and said, "Uh Oh!" We both had scratchy throats! I'll post a blog about our most wonderful vacation soon.

Emily is growing and stretching and moving like crazy! I'm so ready to meet the little booger!

**WARNING TO THE SQUEAMISH**
-This quite possibly is too much information for you-

This is the update from the website: Week 27

Your Baby's Development
By this first week of the third trimester, your baby looks similar to what he or she will look like at birth, except thinner and smaller. The lungs, liver, and immune system still need to fully mature, but if born now, your baby would have a very good chance of surviving.
As hearing continues to develop, your baby may start to recognize your voice as well as your partner's. Sounds may be muffled, though, because the ears are still covered with vernix, the thick waxy coating that protects the skin from becoming chapped by the amniotic fluid.
Your Body
Your body instinctively nourishes and protects your baby during pregnancy, but caring for a newborn is a learned skill. Consider signing up for childbirth classes through your local community center or hospital to learn about topics such as labor, options for pain relief, what to expect after delivery, common newborn problems, babyproofing, breastfeeding and formula feeding, and infant CPR. Learning all you can about birth and babies will help you feel more confident, especially if you're a first-time parent.
